BEING PREPARED

I’ve photographed many Vancouver weddings as a Vancouver wedding photographer, so I know the importance of being prepared.  You never know when you’ll need some of these items during your Vancouver wedding.  Many brides actually put together a little ‘wedding emergency kit’ to make sure they’re ready for anything!

Safety pins (any kind of pins, really) are always good to have on hand.  Your Vancouver wedding will likely be a full busy day, so having some pins to repair wardrobe malfunctions or keep hair in place are a good idea.  You’ll also make sure you can look your best during your Vancouver wedding photography!

If your Vancouver wedding is during the summer, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of bottled water available for yourselves and your Vancouver wedding party.  Especially for the girls, straws are important to keep lipstick looking fresh.  There’s nothing worse than being thirsty, hungry, and exhausted during your Vancouver wedding photography, so remember to fuel up!

Vancouver weddings in the summer are gorgeous (we live in a beautiful corner of the world!), but when the sun is beating down, everybody can get overheated and sweaty.  This can be a challenge during your Vancouver wedding photography.  Start with a few portable handheld fans to keep everybody cool during your Vancouver wedding.  Also, blotter paper is a must-have to keep your face from getting too glossy during your Vancouver wedding photography.  Plus, deodorant (even just the spray kind) can help keep those dudes in their dark suits nice and fresh all day.  And of course, a few supplies to touch up hair and make-up are always a good idea as well!

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Vancouver wedding without a chance of rain!  Even during a Vancouver wedding in the summer, you never know, so having a few umbrellas handy is always a good idea.  You don’t want to get totally soaked during your Vancouver wedding photography, and as a Vancouver wedding photographer I’ve often used umbrellas as great props when photographing Vancouver weddings!

During your Vancouver wedding, you’ll definitely want to have a pair of comfortable shoes nearby for downtime or when you’re not totally on display for your Vancouver wedding guests.  Standing and dancing in high heels all day can get to be a big pain, especially during your Vancouver wedding photography, so grab some flats and relax!

THE BEST OF VANCOUVER

Having your wedding in Vancouver gives you plenty of amazing location options for your Vancouver wedding photography.  Vancouver is a beautiful city with lots of variety in scenery, so as a Vancouver wedding photographer, here are a few of my favourite spots to photograph Vancouver weddings.

If you’re looking for a gritty urban look for your Vancouver wedding photography, areas like Gastown, Front Street (in New Westminster), or certain parts of Granville Island are a great place to start.  As a Vancouver wedding photographer, I’ve got a few top secret favourites of my own as well, so be sure to ask me!

For a more modern urban feel for your Vancouver wedding photography, think glass, steel, or modern architecture.  Areas like the Vancouver Convention Centre, Simon Fraser University, the Richmond Olympic Oval and Granville Island have lots of spots that make for great Vancouver wedding photography.

Of course, you can also go for images with classic Vancouver landmarks for your Vancouver wedding photography.  As a Vancouver wedding photographer, I’ve worked with many brides who love sites like the Harbour Centre revolving tower, Canada Place, and Stanley Park for timeless Vancouver wedding photography.

Photographing Vancouver weddings, I’ve also worked with many brides who envision a summer, beach look for their Vancouver wedding photography.  Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks are great locations to get that sun-drenched beach feel for your Vancouver wedding photography.

Vancouver is famous for its parks, so if you’re thinking about a park setting for your Vancouver wedding, consider areas like Stanley Park, Little Mountain, or Vandusen Gardens.  Even though they’re in the middle of the city, these parks can be great peaceful locations for your Vancouver wedding photography.

TYPES OF ALBUMS

As a Vancouver wedding photographer, I’ve met with many brides who have a lot of questions about wedding albums.  A wedding album is a fantastic way to display your Vancouver wedding photography, but with a dizzying variety of options, terms, and products to choose from, it can be a confusing process!  However, Vancouver wedding photographers’ marketing materials and price lists aside, most contemporary Vancouver wedding photographers typically offer wedding albums in one of two styles:

PRESS PRINTED

Press printed albums are a relatively new product, and are becoming more popular as the cost of colour printers and technology continually becomes more affordable.  Press printed albums often offer a wide variety of page thickness, page finish, and cover options, and can vary widely in quality from low-end books available directly to consumers to high quality books intended for use in fine art or museum-like displays.

Many Vancouver wedding photographers offer press printed albums as a lower cost option, as they are typically less expensive than true photographic printed albums.  I offer press printed wedding albums to display your Vancouver wedding photography for parent albums or guest books.

FLUSH MOUNT

As a Vancouver wedding photographer, my premium wedding album option is a flush mount album.  Flush mount albums use real photo paper, which is mounted back-to-back – generally with a substrate in between pages to create a thick or even rigid page.  The photographic paper used is generally of archival quality to keep your Vancouver wedding photography durable and resistant to fingerprints or other contaminants.

Usually the pages in flush mount albums open completely flat, so your Vancouver wedding photography can be displayed across a full panoramic spread of the book for a dramatic look.  Flush mount wedding albums also offer many options for page finish and cover options.

Be sure to ask your Vancouver wedding photographer to explain the types of wedding albums they offer!

ABOUT PHOTOJOURNALISM

I usually don’t call myself a Vancouver wedding photographer.  I usually call myself a Vancouver wedding photojournalist.  One of my favourite things about photographing Vancouver weddings is that I get to capture the story of your Vancouver wedding day.  I get to capture not only how you looked on your wedding day, but how you felt.  Your Vancouver wedding photography is the only part of your Vancouver wedding that will last forever, so my work should take you back to the special moments and emotions of your Vancouver wedding each time you look at your images.

Because I’m a Vancouver wedding photojournalist, I let things happen; I don’t make things happen.  The special moments and emotions of your Vancouver wedding day are spontaneous and fleeting, so I dedicate myself to capturing them as they happen.  After all, it’s just not the same if it’s staged!

Photojournalism is all about capturing real life, so as a Vancouver wedding photojournalist my style is clean, simple, and timeless.
